This was my first inlay and the results are not too bad at all. Not perfect but then again it’s just my first attempt.
The inlay measures 3/8″ wide and I used a 1/4″ router bit for the cut (multiple passes). Seeing that the inlay was cut precisely at 3/8″ I now realize it would have been a little easier to cut with a 3/8″ bit.
Test fit of the white marine pearl wrap from Precision Drum Company is a go! I cut the inlay slightly deeper to account for the layer of glue and because I like it when an inlay looks slightly counter sunk as opposed to flush or even worse, sticking out a little.
Next step is to stain and finish the shell, then glue on the wrap, drill the remaining lug holes, cut the beds, wait for the rest of the hardware to arrive from Drum Maker and assembly!
